The Sagarmatha National Park

The Sherpa villages

The Khumbu Icefall

This section of the Everest route is known for its treacherous ice formations and presents a challenge to even the most experienced climbers. The Khumbu Icefall is a natural feature located on the lower part of the South Col route of Mount Everest in Nepal. It is a constantly moving wall of ice, with blocks of ice up to 100 meters tall that are constantly shifting and breaking off, creating a treacherous obstacle for climbers attempting to reach the summit of the mountain.

The icefall is located near the Western part, and the base of the Lhotse Face and is often considered one of the most dangerous parts of the climb. Many climbers will use ropes and ladders to navigate the icefall and will often climb it at night when the ice is more stable.

The Base Camps

There are two base camps on the Everest route, one on the south side of Nepal and one on the north side of Tibet. Both offer a unique experience and are popular with trekkers. There are two main base camps on Mount Everest: the South Base Camp and the North Base Camp. The South Base Camp is located in Nepal at an elevation of 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) on the southern side of the mountain. The North Base Camp is located in Tibet at an elevation of 5,150 meters (16,902 feet) on the northern side of the mountain. This base camp is used by climbers attempting to summit the mountain via the North Ridge route. Both base camps are well-equipped with tents and other supplies and serve as a starting point for climbers as they make their way up the mountain.
