Climbing the Lobuche Peak in Nepal

The Lobuche peak is part of the Khumbu Glacier giants, which are located in Lobuche settlements (approximately). From its location at the tip of the Everest massif, it is one of Nepal’s most beautiful climbing peaks. This journey takes us to the east side of the mountain. Sitting right next to where the Everest Base Camp (EBC) is located, the Lobuche east is a popular destination for travelers.

This famous climbing peak is best explored between September-November and March-May. During these months, you can admire the monasteries and the majestic views of the Everest region. The delights of the good seasons are the hills that are lush in green at the base of the mountains and the snowy peaks in the Himalayas.

Overview

Our 15-day trip in the Khumbu region is considered one of the tougher ones due to more challenges than Island Peak and the fact that it requires more experience in climbing. You will experience one of the more challenging journeys in the area. This is one of the best ways to experience high-altitude mountaineering in the Everest region.

The expedition reaches Lobuche via the Khumbu valley using the regular Everest route and Lukla as our base. The Himalayan summit is a challenging excursion but one that is achievable for healthy individuals.

Lobuche Peak Itinerary

We visit the World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pasupatinath Temple. We stay at a hotel and have breakfast each morning.

Arrive early in the morning for a flight to Lukla. The flight to Lukla itself is an experience of a lifetime as the airfield is highly awarded. The runway is only 60 meters apart at both ends, which is striking. Our trek to Phakding takes us through a green landscape and the stunning view of Kusum Kangraru. We will spend the night at a guesthouse, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

Our journey follows the Dudh Koshi River as we ascend through the Himalayan pine and cedar forests towards the historic trading post of Namche Bazaar. Tibetan and Nepalese traders exchange salt, dried meat, and textiles here.

While Namche is an excellent place to shop for traditional crafts, it is also the main trading post for Himalayan and lowland merchants in the Khumbu region. While in Namche, you will acclimatize, visit a local market and spend time with your team. On the hike, you will catch your first glimpse of Everest and the neighboring peaks.

The day is specially designed to allow our bodies to acclimate. We will hike to Syangboche Airport (3700m), which is the highest airport in the world, and then climb to Everest View Hotel for sweeping views of Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache, etc. In the afternoon, we visit the Everest Photo Gallery and the Sherpa Culture Museum. In the evening, we stay at a guesthouse, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

The spiritual center of the Khumbu, Tengboche Monastery (3,860m), is located in the Dudh Koshi Valley, below the peak of Mount Everest. From here, we descend deep into the Dudh Koshi Valley at Pungki Thanka and then ascend the right flank towards Tengboche Stupa. The climb is long, but the views of Mount Amadablam and, on a clear day, Mount Everest and its surrounding peaks are more than adequate compensation.

Trek through the village of Pangboche (3900m), descend through a beautiful forest, cross the Imja Khola, and summit Jigme Dorje (3900m). Today is perhaps the most interesting trekking day because you won't lose altitude like the previous days, and you'll get to see the peaks of Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse, & other high peaks; through pastures and forests, you'll eventually reach Dingboche, better known as the 'summer valley.'

After breakfast, you will ascent Nagerjun (5100m), which is situated on the flanks of the Chhukung valley directly above Dingboche. This will be your second acclimatization day, which will require approximately 6 hours of trekking.

Ascending the hill could take up to five hours at altitude. The goal is to climb high and sleep low. The footpath is steep at times, creating a physically challenging day. At this altitude, the views are stunning of Taboche Peak (6367 m), Thamserku (6608 m), Lobuche East (6119 m), Lobuche West (6145 m), Kangtega (6685 m), and Ama Dablam (6856 m). If the weather is clear, you can even see Makalu, the world's fifth highest mountain, in addition to the Pheriche Valley.

Following a brief rest, you start the descent back to Dingboche, a two-hour walk at altitude. After lunch, take an extended rest, as temperatures may fall rapidly after sundown over the mountain tops.

Walk along a broad valley floor to Dughla, passing a Trekkers' Aid Post at Pheriche (4240 m). The Trekkers' Aid Post is staffed by western volunteer doctors, while the Himalayan Rescue Association provides information, treatment, and consultation to trekkers. We ascend the valley and arrive at the yak pastures of Lobuche (4910m). We spend the night at a guesthouse, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

View the Khumbu glacier from the top of a short climb through meadows. You can also see the entire south face of Mt. Everest from Kalapattar, the best vantage point for viewing the surrounding peaks. Our journey to Everest base camp will begin when we reach Gorekshep, after which we will continue towards Everest.

Even though there is not much elevation gain, the path is filled with ups and downs, and the altitude makes this a tough trek - but the reward is worth it. Approximately three hours of hiking will take you to the base camp, where you will witness the magnificent Khumbu glacier and icefall, where Everest expeditions begin.

After hiking to Kalapattar (5,545m), the best vantage point to see Mt. Everest and the Himalayan range, we trek back to Gorekshep for a hot breakfast and then descend to Lobuche Basecamp.

Immediately following lunch, our guides will provide you with tips on peak climbing techniques, teaching you how to use ice axes, climbing boots and crampons, harnesses, and ascending and descending ropes. Although prior climbing experience is not required for Lobuche Peak Climbing, we recommend it to develop your climbing confidence and improve your climbing skills. This will help you increase your chances of scaling the summit and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

It takes ten hours to reach the summit of Lobuche peak, but the time depends on the weather. We start early in the morning to climb Lobuche peak. After a safe climb to the peak, we slowly make our way down to Pheriche. From the summit, we can see Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, Cholatse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Changri, and other peaks.

Our planned summit day (day 12) cannot be guaranteed due to the weather, so we plan on using this day just in case we are unable to reach the summit due to bad weather or other reasons. In case of bad weather, we should postpone our climb to the peak. In some cases, your group members may have difficulty adjusting to the altitude. This extra day can be used if necessary. If the trip goes smoothly, we do not need this extra day. We spend overnight in the tent/guesthouse with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

We will take the Imja Khola, ascend to Tengboche, descend Pungki Thanka, finish the steep trail to Kyangjuma, and take the easier trail to Namche. Your accommodation will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

As the trek continues along the Dudh Kosi River, you will arrive at the small mountain airstrip at Lukla, from where you will fly back to Kathmandu. You will stay in a guesthouse with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. . The next day is free for you to explore or rest in Kathmandu, depending on your inclination.

Mera Peak Climbing in Nepal

Mera Peak, located approximately 6476 meters above sea level on the northern part of Lukla, is an exciting and one of Nepal’s most technically challenging peaks. It is located nearby the Khumbu region, making it one of the most popular climbing peaks in the world. Located on the southern side of Everest, this trail is the highest trekking peak in Nepal, and it can get complex, so it will undoubtedly be an exciting and challenging journey. Both the western and south routes offer challenging climbing in a mountaineering environment.

During the 17 days of our trip, we will explore the off-beaten paths of the Hinku valley. We will stay mostly in guesthouses during our stay and have specific days set aside for proper rest and acclimatizing to higher elevations. There are some of the tallest 8000 peaks on this trail, such as Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse. Other impressive mountains include Ama Dablam and Cho Oyu. The best time to join this trek is in the spring and autumn.

Overview

Mera Peak Climbing is not a technically demanding journey, but good health is still required for this course. You will be trekking for longer, so climbers must be very strong and have the stamina to overcome the challenges.
